Unravelling extracellular matrix biomarkers in systemic sclerosis

چکیده
Systemic sclerosis is a prototypic fibrotic disease characterised by accumulation of excessive extracellular matrix in affected tissues, including skin, lung, and walls blood vessels, that can lead to pulmonary hypertension, scleroderma renal crisis, or digital ischaemia. The constellation clinical manifestations makes systemic one the most challenging immune-mediated rheumatic diseases treat. One hallmarks its diversity, natural history progression, improvement, stability skin lung increasingly appreciated as predictor outcome burden.

Biomarkers in systemic sclerosis.
Systemic sclerosis is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder of unknown etiologycharacterized b y pronounced fibroproliferative alterations in the microvasculature, and frequent cellular and humoral immunity abnormalities, culminating in a severe and often progressive fibrotic process. Numerous biomarkers reflecting the three main pathogenetic mechanisms in systemic sclerosis have been described; ...
متن کاملMicroRNAs Regulating Signaling Pathways: Potential Biomarkers in Systemic Sclerosis
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a multisystem fibrotic and autoimmune disease. Both genetic and epigenetic elements mediate SSc pathophysiology. This review summarizes the role of one epigenetic element, known as microRNAs (miRNAs), involved in different signaling pathways of SSc pathogenesis. The expression of key components in transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling pathway has been found ...
متن کاملCirculating Biomarkers of Interstitial Lung Disease in Systemic Sclerosis
Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). Although a large proportion of SSc patients have only limited interstitial involvement with an indolent course, in a significant minority ILD is progressive, requiring prompt treatment and careful monitoring. One of the main challenges for the clinician treating this highly var...
متن کاملHigh frequency skin ultrasonography in systemic sclerosis
Background: Systemic sclerosis is an autoimmune connective tissue disorder which is characterised by cutaneous and internal organ fibrosis. Raynaud’s phenomenon is the earliest feature and may precede the onset of the disease by months to years. The heart, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and other organs may be involved. Our aim was to evaluate skin thickness and echogenicity in systemic...
